Synthesizers built to sit in front of you rather than under a keyboard: analog monosynths, hybrid machines, drum synths and grooveboxes, all in formats that fit a desk, a studio rack or a bag.

Some are hand-built in single-digit runs, some are faithful reissues of instruments that were nearly impossible to find, and some are doing things nobody else is attempting. What they share is character over spec-sheet completeness, and the kind of hands-on panel that rewards turning things and listening.
