A piece of synth history

The original PPG 1002 was one of the last fully analog synthesizers Wolfgang Palm ever built. Introduced in the mid-1970s, it was a portable, monophonic analog machine made in tiny numbers, and it laid the groundwork for everything that followed: the PPG 360, the Wave 2, the Wave 2.2, and the wavetable synthesis that made PPG a legend. Only around two dozen originals were ever made, and barely a handful still work today. For decades, owning a real 1002 was close to impossible.

The Mk2 changes that. Wolfgang Palm joined forces with Cornel Hecht and the Liquid Sky collective to recreate the 1002 faithfully, with new components, modern reliability and a warranty, so this rare voice can finally live in your studio instead of a museum.

The Mk2 recreates the original circuit design, then adds the few things a modern studio actually needs:

• MIDI and CV/gate with velocity, so it plays nicely with the rest of your rig
• A square wave and oscillator sync on oscillator 2, expanding the original palette
• Rock-solid modern components for stability the 1970s could only dream of
• Console-style desktop housing instead of the original keyboard, so it drops straight onto your desk

Everything that made the original sing is intact: the 24dB low-pass filter, the temperature-compensated oscillators, the raw analog character. Nothing sampled, nothing modelled. Just real analog circuitry doing what it has always done.
